The Clinical Research On The Treatment Of Facial Paralysis By Acupuncture Combined With Point Application Therapy

Objective:1.To observe the clinical effect and the changes of electrophysiological parameters of facial paralysis treated by acupuncture and point application therapy.2.To investigate the therapeutic mechanism of the therapy.3.To provide the theoretical and clinical basis for facial paralysis treated by acupuncture and point application therapy.Methods:Fifty patients with facial paralysis were randomly divided into twogroups:the treatment group(25 cases),treated by acupuncture combined with point application;the control group(25 cases)treated by acupuncture.Both are the same with points,method and course.Then observe the changes of symptom score,latency and amplitude of facial nerve conduction,latency of blink reflex(Rl).Results:1.General information:There were no significant differences in sex,age, course,affected side,syndrome differentiation and symptom score in both groups(P>0.05).This study is comparable.2.Clinical effect:The treatment group:15 cases healed completely,6 cases had marked effect,2 cases had effect,2 cases had no effect,so the cure rate was 92%.The Control group:10 cases healed completely,4 cases had marked effect,4 cases had effect,7 cases had no effect,so the cure rate was 72%.There was significant difference between the two groups(P<0.05),and the treatment group was superior to the control group.Comparison of symptomscore:There were significant differences between the pre-treatment and post-treatment in both groups:the treatment group(P<0.01),and the control group(P<0.05).After treatment,there was significant difference between the two groups(P<0.05),which showed that both groups were valid,but the treatment group was superior to the control group on improving symptoms. Comparison of syndrome differentiation after treatment:Both groups were valid in syndrome differentiations,but the treatment group was better than the control group.The total effective rate of the treatment group was higher than that of the control group on Wind-cold type and wind-heat type,while there was no significant difference(P>0.05).3.The changes of electrophysiological parameters:(1) Comparison of latency of facial nerve conduction:Before the treatment,there was no significant difference between the two groups(P>0.05).This study was comparable.In both groups,the pre-treatment and post-treatment showed significance difference (P<0.05).After the treatment,there was significant difference between the two groups(P<0.05),which showed that they both shortened the latency of facial nerve conduction,and the treatment group was superior to the control group.(2) Comparison of amplitude of facial nerve conduction:Before the treatment,there was no significant difference between the two groups (P>0.05).This study was comparable.In both groups,the pre-treatment and post-treatment showed significance difference(P<0.05).After the treatment, there was significant difference between the two groups(P<0.05),which showed that they both improved the amplitude of facial nerve conduction,and the treatment group was superior to the control group.(3) Comparison of latency of blink reflex(Rl):Before the treatment,there was no significant difference between both groups(P>0.05).This study was comparable.In the treatment group,the pre-treatment and post-treatment showed significance difference(P<0.01).In the control group,the pre-treatment and post-treatment showed significance difference(P<0.05).After the treatment, there was significant difference between both groups(P<0.05),which showed that they both shortened the latency of blink reflex(Rl),and the treatment group was superior to the control group.Conclusion:1.Acupuncture combined with point application therapy had definite clinical effect in treating facial paralysis,better than simple acupuncture.2.Acupuncture combined with point application therapy could be used to improve the recovery of facial nerve function better than simple acupuncture.It also could be used to improve facial nerve motor conduction velocity(latency,amplitude)and latency of blink reflex(Rl).3.The integration of acupuncture and point application was better than the sum of the action of each therapy.Keywords:facial paralysis;acupuncture;point application...
