| Objective: To observe the clinical efficacy of treating knee osteoarthritis with fire needle and moxa needle respectively. Methods: According to the diagnostic criteria and inclusion criteria, a total number of 60 patients were chosen, with a loss of 6 cases, the actual number of patients who finished the treatment was 54. Those patients were randomly divided into fire needle group and moxa needle group, with 27 cases in each group. Data of three indicator including movement pains ( reflected by VAS points), 15 meter's walking time and points of clinical symptoms and signs were collected and given statistical analysis so as to compare clinical effects of treating KOA with fire needle and moxa needle respectively. Results: by chi-square test and t test the baseline data of patients in two groups were comparable (P> 0.05). 1. Both fire needle and moxa needle achieved good clinical effect in the treatment of KOA. The overall effective rate of the fire needle group was 100% while the overall effective rate of the moxa needle group was 96.32%. Comparison of the two groups showed no significant difference on overall effective rate (P> 0.05). The cure and markedly effective rate of the fire needle group was 88.89%, which was better than the moxa needle group whose cure and markedly effective rate was 70.32%. But there was no statistically significant difference (P> 0.05). After 4 weeks' treatment, there was an obvious decrease in points of VAS, 15 meters' walking time and points of clinical symptoms and signs compared with that before treatment, and the difference was statistically significant (P <0.01). 2. Comparing the fire needle group and the moxa needle group, the differences between the two groups on 15 meters' walking time and points of clinical symptoms and signs were not statistically significant (P> 0.05). 3. Comparing the fire needle group with the moxa needle group, VAS points of fire needle group decreased more significantly than the moxa needle group and the difference was statistically significant (P <0.05). NO significant adverse reactions were reported in both groups. Conclusion: Both fire needle and moxa needle therapy can significantly reduce clinical symptoms and signs of KOA patients, improve their daily living activities and relieve their pains. Comparing the two groups with each other, there was no significant difference in terms of the improvement of the clinical symptoms and signs and the 15 meters' walking time. As for the overall effective rate and cure and markedly effective rate after the treatment, the difference between the two was also not statistically significant (P> 0.05). But in terms of the VAS points after treatment , the difference between the two groups was statistically significant (P <0.05), indicating that fire needle therapy was better than moxa needle therapy in relieving pains of KOA patients. |
