Objective:To study the Transtheoretical Model's effectiveness of helping smokers' behavior change,so as to explore its practicability in China, and provide a scientific basis for helping people effectively quit smoking in the future. Methods:The study design of this study was Quasi-experimental study. The whole course of this study was conducted by questionnaire survey in two groups (intervention group and control group) at baseline,3 month,6 month,12 month, respectively. On practical considerations, four work sites were identified as research fields.Release the recruitment letter to recruit male smoking volunteers to participate in the study, and randomized the four work sites into intervention and control groups(2 sites/group).Based on sample size requirements, finally recruited 265 in intervention group and 284 in control group. After the baseline survey, gave the intervention group smoke quitting self-help manuals, and release the control group a health-related booklet which has nothing to do with smoke quitting. The research tool for the investigation was foreign corresponding mature questionnaires with several times translation and back translation to suit the Chinese culture before using.Results:1.Most of the research subjects read the booklet in the two groups, but the impact on smoker's quit desire was little, there was no difference between two groups. 2.The two groups at different time points on Point Prevalence Abstinence(24-hour Point Prevalence Abstinence,7-day Point Prevalence Abstinence) was less than 5%, and no difference between the two groups.3.The majority of research subjects in the one-year follow-up phase are in original Stages of Change, particularly the Precontemplator. The ratio of stage forward transition was slightly higher than stage backward transition. The pattern of stage of change is more inclined to in the adjacent stage, and the two groups were no difference in pattern of change.4.At different time points, the intervention group's Pros scores are slightly lower than the control group, and Cons scores are quite the reverse.5.At different time points,in variety of the Tempted Situation scores, generally, the intervention group scored lower than the control group.6.The two groups'frequency using Process of Change at different time points is not high, and no difference between the two groups.7.Groups,baseline demographic characteristics, smoking status have no effect on stage transition. Conclusion:The vast majority of smokers were in Precontemplaton stage, and a large proportion of smokers remained unchanged in the original stage. The impact of only releasing the booklet based on the Transtheoretical Model intervention is little. Presently, the assumption that smoking workers would automatically seek smoke quitting helps could not be verified.
