BackgroundIt has been about 100 years since Albee and Hibbs first reported spine fusion technology in 1911.Lumbar fusion technology has been widely used in spinal surgical, and also been one of the terminal aim of many spinal diseases,It has been used more and more frequently year by year.It can be used in most of the lumbar degenerative diseases such as the lumbar disc herniation, the lumbar canal stenosis, the lumbar spondylolisthesis and so on.The fusion rate has been greatly improved as the technology, theory and internal fixation instrument developing, but the failure rate is still high(5%-35%).The quantity of the bone graft material is one of the important factors of fusion. There is no uniform standard now,but no matter what standard adopted, the surgeon can only estimate the quantity by experience which may cause much windage.ObjectiveIn the transforminal lumbar interbody fusion technology, the estimation of the quantity bone graft material when using different interbody fusion instruments. MethodsFirst, calculating the volume between the vertebras by measuring the width and length of vertebra and the height of fusion instrument used in the operation;then according to the volume between the vertebras s fusion instrument, and the quantity of bone excision during the operation calculate the quantity of bone graft needed beside of the bone excision in the operation.ResultsWe can estimate the quantity of bone graft material additionally needed.ConclusionAccording to the method,we can estimate the bone graft material needed besides of the bone excision in the operation, can not only avoid the influence of material insufficiency on fusion rate and unnecessary wasting of bone graft material, but also can place the interbody fusion instrument at a suitable space.
