Objective To compare the clinical results of locking proximal humerus plate (LPHP) and trefoil plate in treatment of complex proximal humerus fracturesMethods From March 2002 to September 2007.59 cases with complex proximal humerus fractures were treated by open reduction and internal fixation . LPHP was used in 31 cases and trefoil plate in 28 cases. The average age of 31 patients with LPHP fixation was 52.6±4.3 years old .According to Neer classification system of the proximal humerus fractures , three-part fractures were in 19 cases and four-part fractures in 12cases. The average age of 28 patients with trefoil plate fixation was 50.8±2.8 years old .Three-part fractures were in 17 cases and four-part fractures in 11 cases. All patients were followed up for 10 to 37 months . The clinical effects were assessed and compared by the shoulder pain and disability index (SPADI ) after operation for 3,6 and 12months.Results The clinical results using LPHP were better than using trefoil plate statistically in SPADI scores in treatment of complex proximal humerus fractures(P < 0.05).Conclusion With LPHP fixation was better than trefoil plate in treatment of complex proximal humerus fractures.
