【Abjective】To evaluate the value of BAEP and SEP in prediction of the outcome in consciousness disorded patients.【Methods】The BAEP and SEP examination was performed on the 20 conscious- ness disorded patients induced by various kinds of etiology at bedside. At the same time, Glasgow Coma scale was tested too in order to analyse the elativity between BAEP,SEP,GCS and the patients'prognosis.【Results】The results of BAEP test showed that twelve patients were abnorma1 when the others were normal. The abnorma1ity showed the prolongation of peak latency (PL)and the interpeak latency(IPL)or the disappearance of waves after waveⅠ. SEPs were normal in four cases and abnormal in other cases with lack of N20,PL were lengthend, amplitude reduced and wave shape dispersed . In the 16 patients ,4 had well prognosis, when the others had not.The imortality of pailents with abnormal SEP was higher than that with normal SEP.When BAEP was abnormal at the same time, the mortality was higher than that with abnormal SEP only.Seven patients did not have recordableⅢ-Ⅴwave and N20 wave at the same time, all of them had a severe outcome.【Conclusion】BAEP can reflect brainstem function when SEP reflects cerebral function, all of them have certain value on prognostic evaluation of the consciousness disorded patients. When the BAEP and SEP can be examed at the same time ,the accuracy will be improved. The moving examination can also improve accuracy. They have important clinical vale.
