Studies On Current Situation And The Countermeasure Of Birth Defects In Daqing Region

Birth defect is the major cause of perinatal morbidity of fetal death, stillbirth and neonatal death and it could also contribute to mental deficiency and long term diseases in children. Birth defect could not only influence people's life but bring about enormous economic loss and mental burden for its involved person,family and the society as well. Mastering the status quo of birth defect and analysing the situation in Daqing city can provide evidence for implementing intervention of birth defect and establishing prepotency policy.ObjectiveTo master the incidence of birth defects, gender difference and long-term trend and analyze the situation in Daqing city so as to put forward the related measurement to deal with birth defect, reduce its occurrence and improve birth population quality.MethodA survey was mainly conducted in the First Hospital of Daqing and the surveyed objects were perinatal neonate including live,fetal death and stillbirth, whose mothers were labor or induced labor from 28 weeks of pregnancy to 7 days post-partum between January 1, 2000 and December 31, 2007 in the hospital. Epidemiologic features and correlation factors of birth defects were analyzed so as to probe into the paths of preventing birth defects and provide theoretical basis for precautions against defects of birth.Results13036 cases (males/ female/non =6695/6337/4) of perinatal infant were surveyed in the First Hospital of Daqing between 2001 and 2007. During the period of 8 years between 2000 and 2007, 217 cases with birth defects were detected with total detection rate of 16.65‰in the First Hospital of Daqing and the detection rate of birth defects were of a rising trend and there was a significant differencec (p<0.05) of birth defects between urban and rural residents and there was no statistical significance (p>0.05) in gender difference of birth defects. Of the detectvie cases of birth defects between 2000 and 2007 in the First Hospital of Daqing, the incidence of congenital heart disease and cleft lip with cleft palate showed an upward trend year after year. The top 5 disease order of the birth defects were, respectively, congenital heart disease, cleft lip with cleft palate, anencephaly, hydrocephalus and spina bifida. Of the top 5 diseases of birth defects detected during the 8 years, congenital heart disease was ranked in the first place. The age of pregnant women was found to have relation with birth defects.ConclusionThis survey showed that the overall incidence of birth defects had a rising trend and the prevalence of the disease in rural area was higher than in city. The incidence is not greater in male infants than that in female infants while the prevalence of the disease was higher among both elder and younger pregnant women. There was a rising trend of the incidence for congenital heart disease and cleft lip with cleft palate.
