Objective:To prescribe the bone quality of the pre-implanted mandible in quantity through the approach of the optical density analysis after the examination of the pantomography and analyze its feasibility.Methods:30 males and 30 females who would receive the procedure of dental implantation were examined with the pantomography before the procedure. Those films were scanned into computerized bitmap files and imported into the software ImagePro Plus.Four areas of interest were selected. They were the ascending branch(A),the posterior part of the mandibular body(B),the anterior part of the mandibular body(C) and the pre-implanted area(D).â‘ The mean optical densities of these four areas of interest were measured with the software ImagePro Plus.â‘¡Then the panoramic mandibular indices of all objects were made out.The mean panoramic mandibular indices of three groups received Kruskal-Wallis test.â‘¢The mean optical densities of the pre-implanted area of three groups received Kruskal-Wallis test and t-LSD test. Then the CT values of the centers of these four areas of interest were measured with the software SimPlant after data importation. The liner correlation analysis was carried out between the mean optical densities and CT values of all four areas of interest. Results:â‘ All mean optical densities of four areas of interest were measured with the software ImagePro Plus and the pantomography. The mean optical density of the pre-implant area(D) was relatively low.â‘¡There are statistical differences between the means of optical density of the pre-implanted regions of groupâ… ,â…¡andâ…¢. There is liner correlation between the optical densities and CT values of same areas of interest. Conclusion:The approach of optical density analysis is able to classify the different divisions of mandible and its results bear the same fidelity with the SimPlant with CT scan. This approach is effective and feasible.
