Reflection Of The Traditional Chinese Medicine In Philosophy Of Science Context

Since the enterance of the western medicine, the reflection of the Traditional Chinese Medicine ( TCM ) had been a piece of constant hot topic as it is the symbol of the colliding between the western and Chinese culture. In this background, I found the topic: the study on the paradigm of TCM. Since the 1920s, many people oppugned the TCM, which continued until now and proved that if the TCM wanted to develop, it needed valuable reflection. To innovate, we first need inheriting the tradition. During that process, we will meet some problems: what is the correct attitude to TCM.In the first summit of the Traditional Chinese Medicine in November 13th,2007, Mr. Hong Hu raise an opinion that we should develop TCM scientifically instead of TCM modernization. We should use the modern science and technology to develop TCM, at the same time we must not forget the rational way of TCM.This thesis is based on the philosophy of science. By using the studying methods of philosophy of science, we will study on the based theories and methodology of TCM.Philosophy of science is a new one in philosophy, which subjected in science. There are two kinds of science, one is science in broad sense, which stands with philosophy, logic and math, and another is science in narrow science, which we called nature science. This thesis based on the science in broad sense. Science is a kind of logical structure and relationship, and accurate language system. Because of the coming of science, systematization of theories has been an important aim of TCM researchers. The philosophy of science can help TCM rebuild the theory structure. The study on TCM of course will contribute to the developing of philosophy of science.The structure of this thesis is very clear. First chapter is about the study aim, main research methods and structure of this thesis. In the second chapter, this thesis studied the language structure based on the language philosophy. In the third chapter, this thesis discussed the main theories of TCM, which are vital-Qi, yin-yang and five elements, and analyzed the relationship between the TCM and Chinese traditional philosophy. In the fourth chapter, the thesis mainly studied the methods of TCM's research and practise.The based theories of TCM has deeply relationship with Chinese traditional philosophy. The different language system is one of main characteristics of TCM, compared with the western medicine. Though TCM appeared in 2000 years ago, TCM is still logical and rational.The main contribution of this thesis lies in the following:1. New resaerch aspect. There are many research about the TCM. But there is a little on the paradigm of TCM.2. The main difference between the Chinese medicine and Western medicine is the difference of paradigm, not of the skills.3. The most significant characteristic of TCM's language is the model of metaphor.
