Background: The knowledge towards the regulation on the handling of medical accidents, the important part to the knowledge of nursing was not studied. Objective: To study the level of the knowledge, cognition and related factors towards the regulation on the handling of medical accidents and analyze the affection of the main factors.Methods: A cross-sectional study was given to a random sample of 12 hospitals in ZheJiang Province. A total of 1172 practice nursing students were interviewed to assess the knowledge, cognition and related factors towards the regulation on the handling of medical accidents.Results: 1) The mean score of cognition was 34.40±4.76. The great majority of students had high score; 2) The mean score of knowledge was 9. 43±2. 67. The great majority of students had low score . The practice nursing students were short of the knowledge of prevention (3.41±1.39) , knowledge of appraisal (0.42±0.49) , knowledge of criminal responsibility (0.59±0.49) , knowledge of compensation and setting responsibility (2.27±1.08) ; 3) The factors affecting the knowledge were hospital train , sex , practice hospital, the time of practice , cognition , course studying, record of formal schooling (P<0.05- P<0.001) .Conclusions: The cognition towards the regulation on the handling of medical accidents among practice nursing students was positive. The practice nursing students were short of the knowledge of the regulation on the handling of medical accidents. Hospital train was the main factor . It was suggested to enhance the hospital train, to enhance the school education, to guide the positive cognition.
