| Objective: To study the expression of mfn2 gene in different tissues of normal weight and overweight patients with breast cancer and to investigate the relationships between mfn2, obesity and breast cancer. Methods: The expressions of mfn2 were measured and analyzed in skeletal muscle, galactophore, fat, para-cancer tissue and cancer using the RT-PCR technique.Result: In subject group with normal weight, the expressions of mfn2 in muscle and galactophore are not significantly different (P=0.101), and they are significantly higher than in fat (P=0.016), para-cancer (P=0.027) and cancer (P=0.002). In overweight group, the expressions in muscle, fat and galactophore are close to each other, but are higher than in para-cancer(P=0.003) and cancer(P=0.001). Compared with the normal-weight group, the expressions of mfn2 are remarkably lower in overweight group. Conclusion: The results demonstrate that mfn2 has a decreased expression in cancer, especially in the tissues of overweight subjects.mfn2 is responsible for breast cancer and obesity may increase the risk of breast cancer. |
