It was showed that the incidences of visual abnormal are more than 10%in chilidren. In abroad, visual abnormal are even up to 20%-30%in high risk infants. However it has not been clearly realized that the harm of the visual abnormal and its the importance of the prevention to children. It is critical to evaluate visual development in infants. Both early detection and treatment is the premise to promote visual development. The objective of the study is to investigate the VEP characteristic of visual development in infants, and to develop a visual screening test of PL and OKN in infants. It will provide both theory and practice evidence of to carry a visual screening test in infants.Part one Flash visual evoked potentials on infant 0-6 monthage[Objective]To study the characteristic of flash visual evoked potentials(FVEP) on term infant and premature infant within 6 months of age.[Methods]Eye multi-function check instrument made by the Kang Hua company was used to carrying a FVEP examination on 91 infants(the number of full term infants were 61,premature infans were 30).[Result]The reference range of FVEP's latency and N1P1's amplitude in term infant and it's trending by age in month were obtained;Wave P1's latency in term infant within 2 months of age,2~4 months of age,4~6 months of age was 181.77,153.45,132.44 respectively;Wave P1's latency in premature infant was 213.25,184.22,166.47 respectively. There were no significant differences on any of the mean latency date (P<0.05);The FVEP's latencies both between term infant and premature infant, and between corrected premature infant and term infant were compared. The emergence rate of P1 wave in premature infant and term infant was more stable than other waves. It was founded that the latency of wave P1 in premature infant was longer than that of the term infant, while there was no significat difference for the latency of wave P1 between the corrected premature infant and term infant.[Conclusions]The relative stability of P1 response of infant made it the most useful components to be used in paediatric clinical work. The latency of P1 in the infant was the parameter that showed lower variability and therefore the most suitable one to establish normative data. There was no significant difference for the latency of P1 between the corrected preterm infant and term infant.Part two Study of preferential looking cards in infant visual development[Object]To evaluate the clinical application of preferential looking cards on infant visual development.[Method]Using PL cards produced by BEI JING TONGREN company to check-up 131 infants aged from 1 to 7months,male 71,and female 60 respectively. They are all full-term infants with positive OKN.[Result]1,The mean PL values of different age groups:There were divided into six age groups according to each month of age,i.e.1m~,2m~,3m~,4m~,5m~,6m~; and the mean SNELLEN visual value was 0.150,0.156,0.184,0.328,0.477,0.461 respectively.2,The trend of visual development in infants:the visual value was increased by months of age, with a relatively lower development within the first 3 month of age, followed by a rapidly increased between 3 to 5 months of age,and then entered a lower development stage afterwards.[Conclusion]1,PL cards can be used to evaluate infants' visual development aged from 1 to 6 month of age.2,PL can only be used as a qualitative tool for infants older than 6 months of age.Part three Study on influential factors on infant visual development[Object]To explore the influential factors on infant visual development.[Method]All the parents were surveyed by a well-designed questionnaire relatived with infant visual development.[Result] 1,With single factor analysis, family month income, birthweight, pregnant weeks, and the number of colorful toys were significant relative with the LP value(p<0.05).2,Multifactor analysis was carried to four significant singer factors.Family month income, numbers of colourful toys were the important facotors affecting the visual development in infants.Higher family month income and the more colorful toys would improve the infant visual development.[Conclusion]Family month income and the number of colorful toys were the important factors and may improve the infant visual development.
