| Objective: To investigate the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MS) of 7 years and 11 years old children in Yueyang city and discuss the relationship between the metabolism abnormality and the carotid artery intimal-media thickness (IMT).Methods: Five elementary school in Yueyang city were randomly selected and 2024 students in grade 2 (7 years old) and 1784 students in grade 6 (11 years old) were studied, from whom screened the overweight, obese and normal children using the BMI way. According to the voluntary principle, blood pressure, fasting plasma glucose, lipid profiles, fasting insulin as well as the B ultrasound examination of carotid artery IMT were carried on 206 children.Results: 1. The prevalence of overweight was 10.5%, obese was 5.3% in 7 years and 11 years old in Yueyang city children, of the total male students' overweight rate was 13.6%, obese rate was 7.3%, which was higher than the female students significantly(p< 0.001); 2.The BMI, WC, HC were different from each other significantly in three weight groups for 7 years old, but SBP, DBP, PP, TG, HDL-C, FPG, FINS, HOMA-IR were no significant difference among three groups, in contrast with 7 years old children, 11 years old children, BMI WC, HC, SBP, DBP, PP, TG , FINS,HOMA-IR were different from three weight groups (p< 0.05), only HDL-C and FPG didn't have significant difference(p > 0.05); 3.The prevalence of MS in overweight and obese children respectively reached 2.9% and 17.5%, which was higher than the normal control group significantly (p< 0.001); 4. The carotid artery IMT of overweight and obese children was higher than the normal control group(p < 0.05) ; 5.The IMT was significantly different among metabolism groups in 7 years old and 11 years old children (p<0.001), when compared with any two groups , there were significant difference between them(p<0.05); 6.Relevance analysis displayed carotid artery IMT was positive with age, SBP, PP, WC, HC, FINS, HOMA-IR, aggregation of metabolic abnormality(p < 0.05), and there were no significant correlation with HDL-C and FPG(p>0.05).Conclusion: 1.The prevalence of metabolism abnormality was high in 11 years old children in Yueyang city, especially obese children. 2. The carotid artery IMT was increased as metabolic abnormality appeared in children, another more, the carotid artery IMT was positive to the number of metabolic abnormality. |
