Objective1. To analyze the curative effect of radioactive iodine-131 therapy for Graves disease;2. To explore the effects of thyroid size in radioactive iodine-131 therapy for Graves disease.MethodsAccording to the follow-up results after one year treatment, 1020 patients in all were divided into early hypothyroidism group, euthyroidism group, partial remission group and ineffective group. The early hypothyroidism group was divided into transient hypothyroidism group and permanent hypothyroidism group. And some patients who were not cured in singly radioactive iodine-131 therapy were repeatedly treated. And we calculated the general effective rate, recovery rate, incidence rate of early hypothyroidism, incidence rate of transient hypothyroidism and incidence rate of permanent hypothyroidism in both single treatment and repeated treatment. And then according to the weight of thyroid , all patients were divided into four groups: the first group(<=30g), the second group(31-45g), the third group(46-60g) and the fourth group(>60g). And the effective rate, recovery rate, incidence rate of early hypothyroidism, incidence rate of transient hypothyroidism and incidence rate of permanent hypothyroidism of the four groups were calculated seperatly. The SPSS sofeware was used to assess the relationship of thyroid weight and the therapeutic effect in radioactive iodine-131 therapy for Graves disease. And x~2 test was used to compare the recovery rate and the incidence rate of early hypothyroidism of single treatment with those of repeated treatment. Continuous variables are reportes as mean±deciazione standard, a p value less than 0.05 is considered significant.Results1.The general effective rate, recovery rate and incidence rate of early hypothyroidism in single treatment were 85.9%, 68.5% and 21.1%. And the incidence rate of transient hypothyroidism and incidence rate of permanent hypothyroidism in the early hypothyroidism group were 79.53% and 20.47%;2.The effective rate, recovery rate and incidence rate of early hypothyroidism in repeated treatment were 94%, 70% and 14%;3.The effective rate was 96.6%, 93.3%, 92%, 80% in the first, second, third and fourth group separatly. And the recovery rate was 82%, 69%, 63.2%, 47% separatly. The incidence rate of early hypothyroidism was 31%, 28.5%, 18.3%, 11.3% separatly. The incidence rate of transient hypothyroidism was 62.5%, 72.9%, 88.51%, 84.62% separatly in the early hypothyroidism group. The incidence rate of permanent hypothyroidism was 37.5%, 27.1%, 11.49%, 15.38% separatly in the early hypothyroidism group;4.Both the therapeutic effect and the turnover of early onset hypothyroidism had relationships with the weight of thyroid(P<0.01, P<0.05);5.The recovery rate presented with no significant difference between the single treatment group and the repeated treatment group( P>0.05). And the incidence rate of early hypothyroidism also showed no significant difference between the single treatment group and the repeated treatment group(P>0.05).Conclusions1.The radioactive iodine-131 therapy for Graves disease had a significant therapeutic effect for all patients;2.The repeated treatment for Graves disease also had a significant therapeutic effect. But both the recovery rate and the incidence rate of early hypothyroidism showed no significant different between the single treatment group and the repeated treatment group;3.The patients with bigger thyroid sizes had lower recovery rate and incidence rate of hypothyroidism.
