Objective To evaluate the diaphragmatic function of stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients who are treated by Noninvasive Positive Pressure Ventilation (NIPPV) Methods All the papers of randomized controlled trial about the treatment of Noninvasive Positive Pressure Ventilation for patients with stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease were selected from PUBMED, OVID, SCIENCEDIRECT, CBMdisc, CNKI et al. Meta-analysis was performed by using statistical software Review Manager 4.2.8. Results 9 articles were included in this meta-analysis. Compared with spontaneous breathing, NIPPV showed significant influence in MIP, Pdi, PTPdi, PTPdi/b. Conclusions Compared to the natural state of the respiratory, the NIPPV significantly improve respiratory muscle fatigue of the patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, alleviate the burden of respiratory muscle, therefore, respiratory muscles get rest, and the strength and endurance of diaphragm have been obvious improved. Meanwhile, by increasing minute ventilation, decreasing respiratory power, improving life quality and the oxygenation obviously, reducing carbon dioxide retention, the patients ventilation get improved, it also promote the rehabilitation of the COPD patients.
