Objective: To study the clinical characteristics of Henoch-Schonlein Purpura (HSP) at Lvliang area in Shanxi province. Methods: The 230 cases with HSP at Lvliang area in Shanxi province were retrospectively studied and patterns of onset, clinical manifestations and correlated factors of renal damage were analyzed.Result: (1) The age of onset of all the 230 children with HSP were from one year and ten months to fourteen years and the mean age was (7.70±3.15) years.56.96% of the patients revealed evident predisposing factors, mainly respiratory infection. (2) All the patients had typical purpura. The distribution of rash in the lower extremities, buttock and upper extremities was 100%, 37.83% and 20.87%, respectively. Totally 89 cases (38.70%) developed HSP nephritis, and the ratio of boys'and girls'was 2.18:1 (P<0.05).The recurrent of skin purpura was 53.93% (48/89) and 19.15% (27/141) for the patients with renal damage or not, respectively (P<0.05). The patients with purpura and gastrointestinal tract symptoms and the patients at mining district presented more renal damage than those with purpura only and in city (P<0.05). (3) Totally 65 cases (28.26%) was purpura only in clinical manifestations. The patients with the first current of skin purpura and the patients in city presented single skin symptom than those with the recurrent of skin purpura and at mining district (P<0.01). (4) Platelet count and Erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) increased in 34.35% and 22.34% of the cases, respectively. Conclusion: (1) The most important inducing factor of HSP was infection. (2) Boys had more often renal damage than girls. Those with recurrent skin purpura or gastrointestinal symptoms or at mining district tended to have renal damage. (3) Those with recurrent skin purpura or at mining district presented more symptoms. (4)The patients were in the hypercoagulatory state, and early anticoagulation therapy was necessary.
