| OBJECT: To investigate the clinical value of volume rendering imaging of 16-slices spiral CT in diagnosing non-invasive fungous maxillary sinus diseases. METHODS: 16-slices spiral CT findings of 16 cases those clinically considered non-invasive fungous maxillary sinus diseases and 10 other cases of maxillary sinus diseases were analyzed, post-processing of images was performed by using the software package at the workstation. All cases were proved by surgery and the post-processing images were carefully analyzed combining with the clinical manifestation. All cases were followed up for 6-12 months. RESULTS: Characteristic images of volume rendering imaging are found in all kinds of diseases above. Through the images we obtain that we can find distribution of fungi conglomeration inside the maxillary sinus, destroy of bone substance around the natural exit of maxillary sinus and possibility of biology behavior of fungous disease. CONCLUSIONS: Volume rendering imaging of 16-slices spiral CT was proved to be a better way to show the range of fungous maxillary sinus diseases, the degree of bony change and the relationship to tissue surrounding than the usual two-dimension imaging. With the 3D stereoscopic thinking, it is much easier to see relationship between all the structures of OMC and to provide a more accurate diagnosis of maxillary sinus diseases, thus make a profit for choice of surgical operation project and surgical operation of safety. |
