Cervical spondylopaphy is caused by the degenerative and prolapsed cervical intervertebral discs and the small malposed cervical joints, which directly stimulating or compressing cervical spinal nerves, vertebral artery and spinal dural capsule , bringing on complicated clinical presentations. The incidence of the cervical spondylopaphy is about 1.7—17.6%. Nerve-rooted type of cervical spondylopaphy , which is about 70% in the total outbreaking rate, is the highest incidence category among cervical spondylosis. In recent years cervical spondylosis attack not only the old but also the young increasingly because of the modern style of life. The pathogeny of nerve-rooted type of cervical spondylopaphy has not been confirmed up till now. Based on Traditional Chinese Medicine, causes of the diseases is believed to include deficiency of the liver and kidney, insufficiency of qi and blood, exposure to exopathogenic factors, overwork, injury etc. And it is caused by mechanical oppression, inflammatory stimulation and immunoreactions in the theory of Western Medicine. There are many methods to treat nerve-rooted type of cervical spondylopaphy at present. These methods are divided into two categories: surgical therapy and non-surgical therapy. The conservative therapys, compared with the surgery therapy, have obvious advantages, and play a leading role in clinic. Non-surgical therapy includes traction, Chinese medicine, acupuncture , massage, physiotherapy and so on. Now it is generally agreed that: as far as non-surgical therapy is concerned, firstly, various methods have shown a certain clinical efficacy; secondly, the effect of combined therapy is better than a single therapy; thirdly, the TCM therapy is superior to the western medicine therapy. Finally ,TCM therapy has some merits such as significant curative effect, easy operation, low cost, little side effect, and so on.Cervical traction therapy is an important therapy for treating nerve-rooted type of cervical spondylopaphy, and it is the most positive and effective curative therapy among conservative therapys. Traction can restrict the activities of cervical, pull wide intervertebral space, increase the volume of intraspinal tube, loosen the nerve root adhesion, correct disorder of posterior joint of spine, recover the normal physiological balance of the spine, release cervical muscular spasticity, improve cervical blood circulation, adjust internal balance, and improve internal milieu.Ion-introduction therapy of TCM drugs is a special therapy which combined with TCM drugs, acupuncture points and physical effect of electric current. It has all of the therapeutic effects of direct currents, drugs and acupuncture point stimulus. The therapy can not only strengthen the partial organization's nutrition metabolism, promote inflammation's absorption, eliminate nerve roots inflammatory edema, decrease terminal nerves excitability , raise the pain thresholds, but also it can introduce drugs that hold therapeutic effects into superficial lesions and keep it higher concentration in local , resulting in the curative rapid and remarkable effect, and alleviate symptoms. Clinical practice proves that ion-introduction therapy of TCM drugs has better efficacy in treating nerve-rooted type of cervical spondylopaphy. This study aims at treating nerve-rooted type of cervical spondylopaphy with ion-introduction therapy of TCM drugs, on purpose of observing the therapeutic effects of ion-introduction therapy of TCM drugs on nerve-rooted type of cervical spondylopaphy. Objective: To observe the therapeutic effects of ion-introduction therapy of TCM drugs on nerve-rooted type of cervical spondylopaphy, and carry on some preliminary research on its functional mechanism. Methods: The 84 cases suffered from nerve-rooted type of cervical spondylopaphy were randomly divided into two groups: a treatment group or a control group. The treatment group was treated with ion-introduction therapy of TCM drugs along with traction therapy, while the control group with traction therapy only. All cases were treated once a day; each period of treatment lasts 5 days. There was two-day interval between two periods. Their pain degree and improvement of two groups before treatment and after two period of treatment were observed and the therapeutic effects of ion-introduction therapy of TCM drugs were evaluated. Results: The clinical observation shows that both of the treatment group and control group have dissimilar curative effects, while the curative effect of treatment group was better than the control group in overall clinical curative effect, improvement of the clinical symptom and sign. There was a significant difference between two groups (P<0.05).Conclusion: Clinical study shows that ion-introduction therapy of TCM drugs on nerve-rooted type of cervical spondylopaphy has a good curative effect, it can obviously improve the clinical symptom and sign. |
