Objective: To study the effect of the content of brain water, neuron specific enolase (NSE)and nuclear factor-kappaBp65(NF-κBp65)in rats after mixing apoplexia with combination treatment of huatanquyuzhixuetang and western medicine. Methods: 70 adult Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into 5 groups:model group, sham group, huatanquyuzhixuetang group(Traditional Chinese medicine group),Ganluchun suniao baoerlindanjian group(Western medicine group) and Combination treatment of huatanquyuzhixuetang and ganluchun suniao baoerlindanjian group(Combination treatment of Traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine group),after dealing with five methods, they were examined the content of water, NF-κBp65 in brain and NSE in blood. Results: From the maximum to the minimum of the content of water, NF-κBp65 in brain and NSE in blood were:the model group, the Traditional Chinese Medicine group, the Western Medicine group, the Combination treatment of Traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine group and normal group. Conclusion: The combination treatment of Traditional Chinese medicine with Western medicine could significantly decrease the content of water and the expression of NF-κBp65 in brain and the content of NSE in blood of rats after mixing apoplexia.Accordingly, it might play an important role in the neuroprotective agents by alleviating cerebral tissue damage of encephaledema, inflammatory reaction and brain cell apoptosis.
