Expression And Clinical Significance Of Survivin And PCNA In Hypopharyngeal Carcinoma

Objective:Hypopharyngeal carcinoma usually has the worst prognosis among the head and neck cancers. It tends to present with advanced primary disease, and nodal metastasis is highly likely.The objective of our research is to investigate the expression and clinical significance of survivin and proliferating cell nuclear antigen(PCNA) in hypopharyngeal carcinoma and the correlation between survivn and PCNA.Material and method:The expression of survivin and PCNA was detected by immunohistochemical envision method in 40 cases of hypopharyngeal carcinoma and 15 cases of paired normal mucosa adjacent to tumor.Results:The positive rate of survivin expression in hypopharyngeal carcinoma group and control group was 72.5%(29/40) and 13.3%(2/15) respectively,which was obviously higher in the former than in the latter(P<0.01).There was a significant difference in the positive rates of survivin expression between the low and moderate-high differentiated hypopharyngeal carcinomas(P<0.05).The positive rate of survivin expression in hypopharyngeal carcinoma with lymph node metastasis was significantly higher than that without lymph node metastasis(P<0.05).Labeling idex(LI) of PCNA in hypopharyngeal carcinoma was obviously higher than that in normal mucosa adjacent to tumor(73.13±11.39)% vs (36.87±12.94)%,(P<0.01),and was also higher in hypopharyngeal carcinoma with lymph node metastasis than that without one(P<0.05).There was a significant difference in the LI of PCNA between the low and moderate-high differentiated hypopharyngeal carcinomas(P<0.05).LI of PCNA in hypopharyngeal carcinoma cell with positive expression of survivin was significantly higher than that with negative survivin expression (77.14±9.72)% vs (62.56±8.46)%,( P<0.01).Conclusion:Survivin expression in hypopharyngeal carcinoma was high,and was related to the differentiated grade,metastasis of lymph nodes.So was expression of PCNA.There was a positive correlation between survivin and PCNA expressions in hypopharyngeal carcinoma.
