Partâ… Expression of CXCR1 and CXCR2 in the mucosa of patients with ulcerative colitisObjective:To study the expression and distribution of CXCR1 and CXCR2 ,which are receptors of IL-8, in the mucosa of patients with ulcerative colitis, and analyze their relationship. Methods: The specimens of twenty-five patients with ulcerative colitis (fifteen in active phase and ten in remission phase) and fourteen infectious colitis and ten controls were studied by immunohistochemical method to detect CXCR1+ cells and CXCR2+ cells. All data were analyzed with stastical software. Results: The expression of CXCR1 in UC in active phase was significantly increased compared with that in UC in remission phase and the controls, and there was no difference between UC in remission phase and controls. CXCR1 was mainly expressed in the membrance of the infiltrative inflammatory cells and the intestinal epithelial cells. There was also upregulation of CXCR1 by lamina propria but not epithelial cells in infectious colitis. CXCR2 was scarcely expressed in all groups, and there was no difference among them. Conclusion: IL-8 may mediate the infiltrating of inflammatory cells mainly through CXCR1, and the expression of CXCR1 on intestinal epithelial cells may play a role in the pathogenesis of UC. Antagonism against CXCR1 may provide a new method for the treatment of UC. Partâ…¡Expression of CXCR1 on the peripheral neutrophiles of patients with ulcerative colitisObjective:To determine the levels of CXCR1 on the peripheral neutrophiles of patients with ulcerative colitis, and analyze their relationship. Methods:Applying flow cytometry to determine CXCR1 levels of peripheral neutrophiles of 10 patients with ulcerative colitis and 10 controls of patients with colon polyps. The data was analyzed with stastical software. Results: compared with health controls, CXCR1 levels of peripheral neutrophiles in ulcerative colitis were significantly increased (P<0.01).Conclusion:The increased expression of CXCR1 may be associated with migration and aggregation of peripheral neutrophiles in inflammatory location, suggesting CXCR1 be involved in the pathogenesis of ulcerative colitis.
