Objective To assess the correlation of appoptosis signal regulationg kinase 1 (ASK1) and Left ventricular remodeling between Kazakh and local Han people with essential hypertension (EH) in Xinjiang. Methods 403 Kazakh and 337 local Han people in Changji area examined by echocardiography were enrolled. Left ventricular mass index (LVMI), left atrial diameter(LAD), early diastolic mitral flow peak velocity (E) and late diastolic peak flow velocity (A) were measured respectively. According to Ganau type, patients with EH were divided into left ventricular normal configuration (LVR) group and left ventricular reconstruction (LVR) group. Samples of peripheral blood were collected from all recruited subjects. Using RT-PCR to detect the expression of ASK1 mRNA in all samples. Result There was no significant differences in LAD and LVM between Kazakh and Han ethnic. The positive rate of ASK1 in Han people was higher than that of Kazakh. In Han people, the positive rate of ASK1 in EH group were higher than control group. While there were no significant difference between controls and hypertension patients in Kazakh. There were no statistical significance of the positive rate of ASK1 between LVN group and LVR group. Conclusion There was significantly different in the expression of ASK1 between Han and Kazakh people in Changji area, Xinjiang. In Han people, there was a certain correlation between ASK1 expression and the incidence of hypertension. There might be no correlation in ASK1 expression and left ventricular remodeling between Kazakh and Han patients with EH.
