Objective: To investigate the Neuropsychological Mechanism of Syntax Comprehension and Production of the Chinese Aphasia, and its theoretical basis of the rehabilitation model. Methods: Using the Japanese Revised Token Test (Token Test) and the Syntax Task, we examined 22 patients with Aphasia after left hemisphere single stoke, then compared the performance on production and comprehension, and investigated the characteristic of language impairment. Then compared the performance on production and comprehension between Broca Aphasia (BA) and Anomic Aphasia (AA). We also examined two groups altogether 20 normal controls with the Syntax Task. Statistical analysis was carried out by SPSS12.0 software. Results: There was no correlation between age and the thruput of syntactic production(r=-0.200, P>0.05) and comprehension (r=-0.219, P>0.05) in Case group; There was no correlation between educational background and the thruput of syntactic production (r=-0.019, P>0.05) and comprehension (r=0.139, P>0.05) in Case group; There was significant difference between the thruput of syntactic production and syntactic comprehension in Case group (Z=-1.967, P<0.05), the thruput of comprehension (73.9%±18.0%) was higher than production (59.7%±26.6%); There was positive correlation between Token and the thruput of syntactic production (r=0.781, P<0.01); There was positive correlation between Token and the thruput of syntactic comprehension (r=0.914, P<0.01); There was significant difference between the thruput of syntactic production of 11 sentence task (P<0.05), the thruput of sentence is declined with the complexity of the sentence; There was significant difference between initiative sentence and passive sentence (Z=-2.299, P<0.05); There was significant difference between Broca Aphasia and Anomic Aphasia on the thruput of syntactic production (P<0.05), while There was no significant difference on the thruput of syntactic comprehension; There was significant difference between the thruput of real and interferential sentence task in Case group (Z=-5.269, P<0.05), the thruput of interferential sentence was lower. Conclusions: 1 Our studies show that the syntax ability of normal persons has no correlation with their educational background; 2 syntactic production and comprehension are both damaged in Chinese Aphasia, production is damaged more serious than comprehension; 3 Chinese aphasia generally preserve the most basic syntactic structure on syntactic expression; the performance of the passive sentence is worse than the initiative sentence in simple sentences, while there is no difference in complex sentences; 4 There was significant difference between Broca Aphasia and Anomic Aphasia on the thruput of syntactic production, while There was no significant difference on comprehension.
