Objectives:To study the correlation of MMP-9,VEGF and COX-2 expression in transitional cell carcinoma of bladder and their significance. Methods:The expression of MMP-9,VEGF and COX-2 was excamined in 61 cases of bladder transitional cell carcinoma and 10 normal bladder mucosas by means of immunohistochemical method(S-P method),the correlations between expression results and tumor pathological grades, clinical stages, recurrence, number of lessions were studied. Results:The positive rate of MMP-9 was 74.61% in BTCCS,while it was not detected in normal bladder mucosas.Furthermore, its expression MMP-9 was highly positively related to grade, stage. The expression of MMP-9 in recurring group is higher than that in primary group. But there was not significantly difference between the solitary tumors and multiple ones. The positive rate of VEGF was 70.49% in BTCCS,while it was only one weakly positive in normal bladder mucosas.Furthermore, its expression VEGF was highly positively related to grade, stage. The expression of VEGF in recurring group is higher than that in primary group. But there was not significantly difference between the solitary tumors and multiple ones. The positive rate of COX-2 was 75.41% in BTCCS,while it was not detected in normal bladder mucosas.Furthermore, its expression COX-2 was highly positively related to grade, stage. But there was not significantly difference between the primary tumors and the recurrent tumors ,between the solitary tumors and multiple ones too. There were positive correlation both between MMP-9 and VEGF,between MMP-9 and COX-2,There was positive correlation between VEGF and COX-2 too.Conclusions:1:The expression of MMP-9,VEGF and COX-2 in bladder transitional cell carcinoma were increased as tumor patho-grade and clinical stage increased.2:The expression of MMP-9 and VEGF in bladder transitional cell carcinoma were correlation with recurrence.COX-2 was not correlation with recurrence.3:The expression of MMP-9,VEGF and COX-2 were not correlation with the number of lesions.4:The expression of MMP-9 and VEGF,MMP-9 and COX-2,VEGF and COX-2 in bladder transitional cell carcinoma are positively correlated.
