Objective This study aimed to determine the clinicopathological factors for predicting survival time in gastric carcinoma patients treated with radicaI operation. Methods From Janury 1999 to March 2002, the clinicopatholgical features of 258 gastric carcinoma patients who underwent radicaI operation were reviewed.27 clinicopathological variables were selected for univariate and multivariate analysis to evaluate their influence on the prognosis. Results 198 cases were followed up successfully. The multivariate analysis of accumulative survival revealed that age,the time of symptom ,serum level of CEA,hemoglobin,Borrmann type, unite viscera excise, the size of neoplasms ,P53,lymph node metastasis , operation verge, organise infringe, liver metastasis, soakage deepness and TMN stage were significantly relative factors for prognosis. The multivariate analysis of disease-free survival revealed that unite viscera excise and lymph node metastasis were significantly relative factors for post operative recurrence. Conclusions An anatomic and extensive radicaI operation was proven to be helpful to improve the prognosis without lymph node metastasis. As to patients with lymph node metastasis, lymph node dissection and vicinity metastasis dissection thoroughly is important curative treatment modality for the prognosis and postoperative recurrence. Unite viscera excise was no helpful to improve the prognosis. More study should be done to find the reason.
