Objectives:To investigate the relationship between the anterior overbite and cephalometric parameters and to analysize the dentoalvelar characteristics with different vertical facial type.Methods:54 patients with skeletal classⅡmalocclusion were recruited into the study. The subjects were divided into three groups with high-angle group,average-angle group,low-angle group based on SN-MP" and were compared with one another.Cephalometric analysis was performed from pre-orthodontic lateral headfilm.Correlation coefficients between the anterior overbite and other cephalometric parameters were calculated.Finallay, cephalometric measurements for all subjects were subjected to a multiple regression analysis with the anterior overbite as the dependent variable.Results:(1)Those cephalometric parameters correlated with anterior overbite can be both dental and skeletal.Multiple regression analysis revealed that all variables used in the study could account for 58.7%of the total variance of the overbite.(2)There were greater statistically significant differences in the several cephalometric parameters among the groupes.SNA,SNB,S-Go in low-angle group were all larger than those in high angle group or average angle group(p<0.01);OB,L1/MP,L6-MP in low angle group were all larger than those in high angle group(p<0.05),N-Me,ANS-Me in low angle group were all smaller than those in average angle group(p<0.05),While S-Go/N-Me in low angle group were all smaller than those in high angle group (p<0.05).Conclusions:(1)Those cephalometric parameters correlated with anterior overbite can be both dental and skeletal. The angle between U1 and L1 may be the most important factor on the anterior overbite of skeletal classⅡmalocclusion.(2)There were greater statistically significant differences in the several cephalometric parameters among the groups with different vertical facial type in skeletal classⅡmalocclusions.
