Purpose: To investigate the structural difference of the extraocular muscles (EOMs) between the comitant strabismic patients and normal people, and to explore the possible mechanism of comitant strabismus. Methods: The histological difference of the extraocular muscles (EOMs) between the comitant strabismic patients and normal people were analyzed by immunocytochemistry with antibodies against actin and myosin, myofibrillar adenosine triphosphatase (mATPase). Results: The differences of myofibrils sum ratio between the comitant strabismic patients group and the normal group were no statistical significance(P>0.05) ,and expression of action and myosin between the comitant strabismic patients group and the normal group were statistical significance (P<0.01). No distribution advantage of muscle fiber type and muscle fibers type grouping phenomenon were observed. Conclusions: Myogenic changes occurred at the weakening EOMs of comitant stralismus ; The distribution of EOMs fibers and the expression of actin and myosin might play important roles in the mechanism of comtant strabismus; the change of fast and slow fibers ratio perhaps was not the reason for comitant Stralismus.
