OBJECTIVE: Chapter 1: The ralation between the expression ofFGF-1/FGFR-1 and the pathological grading in human meningiomas wasstudied by immunohistochemical stain method. The corralation betweenFGF-1 and FGFR-1 was also discussed. Chapter 2: The ralation betweenMVD and pathological grading in human meningiomas was investigatedby immunohistochemical staining of FⅧ, and the corralations betweenMVD and FGF-1/FGFR-1 were discussed too.METHODS: Chapter 1: According to the hematoxylin and eosinstaining, All 68 cases were assorted into 4 groups. The numbers of tumorcells immunohistochemically stained by FGF-1/FGFR-1 were countedand analized. Chapter 2: Endothelial cells can be speciallyimmunohistochemically stained by FⅧ. The stained microvascularnumbers were logged and analized.RESULTS: Chapter 1: To expression of FGF-1, the differencesbetween the adjacent groups have no significance (P>0.05), but on thecontrary in the other groups (P<0.01). To that of FGFR-1, all groupsexceptⅡ~Ⅲhave significant differences (P<0.05) each other.Pearson correlations are significant at the 0.05 level between theexpression of FGF-1/FGFR-1 and the pathological grading, though partialcorrelation between FGF-1 and FGFR-1 is insignificant. Chapter 2: Allgroups have no significance (P>0.05) each other on MVD. MVD hasno correlation with FGF-1 or FGFR-1 (P>0.05).CONCLUSIONS: 1. The expressions of FGF-1 or FGFR-1 hasimmediate relations with the pathological grading of human meningiomas. They can reflect the proliferative activities of meningioma cells, but haveno correlation each other. 2. MVD has no correlation with FGF-1, FGFR- 1 or the pathological grading of human meningiomas. Neither FGF-1 norFGFR-1 is the vital factor in the angiogenesis of human meningiomas.
