Objective:To investigate the prevalence and risk factors of sleep apnea syndrome(SAS) in patients with end stage renal disease. Methods:Using the Berlin Questionnaire and ESS, we divided patients in two groups.A sample from the two group was selected for study in our sleep laboratory to assess the presence of sleep apnea .Contrasting patients with the SAS- as a control group, explored differences between SAS+ and SAS-. A logistic regression model was calculated for the risk about the SAS.Results: 14.5% patients had a high risk of SAS, determined by using the Berlin Questionnaire. There were 15.2% patients had ESS score beyond 9.The prevalence of SAS in this population was 33.1% if AHI≥15 was taken as the cut-point. Diabetes , snoring and high ESS score increased the risk for SAS.Conclusion:SAS are common in ESRD patients who often neglect the fact .Risk factor for SAS in ESRD patients had some similar with the general population ,but there were other different between them. The questionnaire can be used as a screening tool in the uremia population.
