Objective: To investigate the clinical features, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of gastrointestinal stromal tumors( GIST) .Methods:23 patients with GISTs were analyzed Results: There were 10 males, 13 females with an average age of 55.7 years. Tumors located in the stomach in 13 cases (56.5 %), small intestine in 10 cases(43.5%). The common symptoms were abdominal pain and abdominal distention (43.5%) .alimentary tract bleeding (39.1%), Abdominal mass(17.4%). No case was diagnosed before operation. All the 23 patients were treated surgically. The positive rates for CD117 and CD34 were 73.9% and 52.2% respectively by immunohistochemical methods. Conclusion: ( 1 ) The confirmed diagnosis rate of preoperative-GIST is low and digestive tract symptoms have no specificity. (2) The histological characters are similar to smooth muscle tumor and schwannoma. CD117 and CD34 are more specific and sensitive markers for GIST. (3) At present, the operation is still the main method to treat GIST.
