Objective: Report 18 patients with pyogenic vertebral osteomyelitis. To improve the recognization of vertebral osteomyelitise and to diagnose this disease earlier.Methods: From January 2002 to May 2005, 18 patinets with pyogenic vertebral osteomyelitis were studied by means of many medical examinations .10 of them were therapied with operations, and the others were therapied whithout operations.Results: ESR and CRP are more sensitive than WBC. There are special representations all in X-ray, CT and MRI, but only which in MRI are diffential.10 of 18 patients with vertebral osteomyelitis were operated and all of them were covered excellently or well. 8 of 15 patients were therapied without operations, and four of them were covered badly. The prognosis of vertebral osteomyelitis had statistical significance between patients who were operated and the ones withoutoperations (X~2 = 6.429, P=0.023).Conclusion: Diagnose the disease earlier and make an operation earlier can reduce the incidence of deformity.
