| Aldehydes have numerous sources. Many industrial activities such as petrifaction industry, drug produce, plastic industry, resin manufacture can engender aldehydes. There are also many aldehydes in motor vehicle exhausts, gas cookers, cigarette smoking.Aldehydes may be generated through use of household products (e.g.,perfumes,hair spray, air freshener spray, etc.) and outgasing of building and decorating materials (e.g.,urea–formaldehyde resins, plywood, particle board, foam insulation materials, painting and coating materials, new furniture,etc.). Hydrocarbon in air can produce aldehyde through photochemistry action. In warm and sunny day, there are more aldehydes through photochemistry action comparing to the automobile exhaust.Oxidation or peroxidation of lipid in vivo come into being aldehydes;metabolism of serine, glycine, bursine and some de-methyl reaction may generate aldehydes. Formaldehyde is intermediate product of purine and thymine biosynthesis.Adverse health effects associated with aldehyde exposure cover a wide range of signs and symptoms, such as direct irritation of the skin and eyes, making eyes hyperemia, sputum, causing hypersusceptibility, headache, nausea, vomit, nasal problems, etc.Investigations show that aldehydes (especially formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, acrolein) have genetic damages. Their active aldehyde radicle can attack nucleus closed group without metabolizing and come into being bulky adducts with DNA. They can make cross of DNA chain, and even fragmentation. There are more studies on formaldehyde:it has reproduction toxicity, decreasing immunity, impairing respiratory system, increasing signs and symptoms of upper respiratory tract, and causing emphraxis pulmonary ventilation dysfunction. |
