Over the last years more and more research was focused on the exploration of the brain and its function. The ERP have the merit of high time resolution, so it has been used in the brain language cognition study in recent years. This research is about the event related potential in the cognitive course of individual Chinese characters. This research takes creatively the individual Chinese characters to be stimulating material, studying the characteristics of event related potential and distributing position of characteristic wave under three kinds of stimuli as follows: (1) The experiment of matched and mismatched ending strokes of a single Chinese character. (2) The experiment of guessing correctly or mistakenly of ending strokes of a single Chinese character. (3) The experiment of guessing simply or complicated of the single Chinese character. These studies disclose the Chinese cognitive function of the brain, the main functional area of the Chinese cognize course and the difference between the Chinese and English character recognition process. Therefore, the study has the important academic signification. The results of the three experiments are respectively as follows: (1) The results of the first experiment indicates that the ERP are difference between the matched and mismatched ending strokes of a single Chinese character. First, the P300 are observed in the mismatched ERP waveforms, which don't exist in the most electrodes of the matched ERP waveforms (P<0.05). Secondly, the amplitude of the N400 in the mismatched ending strokes of Chinese character is obviously higher than that in the matched groups (P<0.05). The N400 is distributed in the other areas except the right side of temporal lobe and is higher in the left side. However, the amplitude of N400 in the waveforms has no obvious distinction between the cerebral hemispheres, where the amplitude of N400 are obtained by distracting the ERP of the mismatched individual Chinese character by the ERP of the matched group. These results verify that the left and right cerebral hemisphere are both used in the Chinese character recognition, which is very different from the English character recognition, where the left side cerebral hemisphere is used with high percentage. (2) The results of the second experiment illuminates the N400 with high amplitudes could be induced when the subjects guess the ending strokes of single... |
