Background: Ovarian carcinoma is the third common gynecologic malignancy, patients with this cancer have the highest mortality. The patients with early-stage ovarian cancer have little symptom. The biomarker used widely for the detection and management of ovarian cancer is CA125 at present, but it is not very sensitive and lack specificity, so more than 70% of patients with ovarian cancer have metastasized at initial diagnosis. The 5-year survival rate has no more than 30%. If the ovarian cancer can be detected at stage I, the long-term survival rate would increase. Methods for earlier diagnosis are essential to improve prognosis. The characteristics of ovarian cancer are widespread intraperitoneal dissemination and larger volume of ascites. And easy to recurrent is the another character of ovarian carcinoma.How to diagnose the recurrent cases at earlier stage is another challenge for us.Lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) has been discovered from ascites of ovarian cancer, it acts as a important role in the proliferation of cancer cells. Elevated LPA in plasma and ascities were detected in patients with ovarian cancer, its cells produce and release LPA consistently, and LPA can induce cell-proliferation, survival, invasion and anti-chemotherapy of ovarian cancer. But the normal ovarian epithelial cells are not responsible for LPA, so LPA would be a key in developing of ovarian cancer.Objective: To detect LPA of plasma in the patients with ovarian cancer and to evaluate the significance of LPA in the diagnosis of ovarian cancer. Try to establish a simple, fast, sensitive and specific method.
