Study On Epidemiologic Characteristics And Association Genes Of Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus In Children In Ningxia

Objective To investigate into epidemiologic characteristic and to study association between CTLA-4 genes and insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) in children in Ningxia.Methods According to WHO DIAMOND project about diagnostic criteria of type 1 diabetes mellitus in children, a retrospective review was conducted in whole Ningxia area during 1 January 1990 to 31 December 2003 by the"Capture-Recapture"method, in order to investigate the incidence of IDDM in children at age of 0-15 years old. The newly diagnosed case of IDDM were collected from 51 counties or above hospitals (the first independent source of information) and 2816 primary schools, 446 second schools, 22 occupation second schools or 167 kindergartens (the second independent source of information) in this area. We inquired for general characteristics of the patients (height, weight, sex, age, ethnic, urban-rural setting), medical histories (food and medicine, taking high frequently medicine, virus infection, Asthma, Rheumatism, Obesity, Hypertension, and other autoimmune disease ), personal histories (taking health food, stress behavior, childbearing and infant feeding), diets (favorite food, sweet food, cow's milk, honey and so on) and family history of diabetes mellitus and studied environmental risk factories of IDDM by logistic regression analysis and univariate analysis.
