Objective: To investigate the short-term therapeutic effects of the Uncut Roux-en-Y choledochojejunostomy by comparison with the traditional Roux-en-Y choledochojejunostomy. Methods: From April, 2005 to October, 2006, the data of 89 patients who underwent the operations of biliary jejunal anastomosis were analyzed in retrospect, because of biliary obstruction induced by benign or malignant diseases. Randomly, 41 patients underwent the Uncut Roux-en-Y choledochojejunostomy, and 48 patients had the Roux-en-Y choledochojejunostomy. In this analysis, each group were subdivided into two groups, so there are four groups. Then researches are carried out between the same-nature disease groups. The items include the completion time of the biliary jejunal anastomosis, recovery time of bowel sound and the return of the flatus after the operation, hospital stay after the operation, and the resolution of jaundice. Many facters must be taken into consideration, such as the age of the patients and the liver function. Results: The anastomotic time of the Uncut Roux-en-Y choledochojejunostomy is shorter than that of the Roux-en-Y choledochojejunostomy (P<0.05). The recovery time of bowel sound and the return of the flatus of the patients after the operation who underwent the Uncut Roux-en-Y choledochojejunostomy are earlier than the patients who underwent the Roux-en-Y choledocho-jejunostomy, and the difference is significant(P<0.05). The patients of the Uncut Roux-en-Y choledochojejunostomy groups need less time to recover after the operation(P<0.05). The decrease to the 50% level of the total bilirubin in the serum of patients between the groups have no significant difference(P>0.05).Conclusion: Compared with the traditional Roux-en-Y choledochojejunostomy, the Uncut Roux-en-Y choledocho- jejunostomy is simple, which induces less stress to patients, especially for the older patients. The bowel function recovered more quickly and the patients can recover more quickly. The biliary drainage is effective. So the short-term therapeutic effects is better, but the long-term effects need more estimation.
