BackgroundThe breast cancer is the most common malignant tumor in the female. The incidence of breast cancer is presented in an increasing tendency at 0.2~8% every year in worldwide. In the western countries, the breast cancer was one of the main cause of the death in the female. In Chinese shanghai city, the breast cancer is the primary cancer among the malignant tumors in female, and the metastasis and recurrence of breast cancer are the two main causes of death. So the evaluation of the prognosis for the breast cancer is of great importance in the comprehensive treatment of these patients. Clinical classification and lympho node metastasis statue was the common used indexes in the prognosis predication of breast cancer patients in traditional. With the development of clinical research, many oncogenes were applied in the predication for the prognosis and the metastasis possibility of breast cancer patients. It was demonstrated that the C-erbB-2 gene expression and p53 gene mutation was the dangerous factor in the prognosis of breast cancer, but its mechanism in the development of breast cancer have not been drawn a accurate conclusion. There were different viewpoints of the relations between above molecular events and clinical classification, lympho nodes metastasis, patho-histological type. The C-erbB-2 gene and p53 gene expression in the breast cancer were detected by immunohistochemistry methods in seventy-nine cases of breast cancer and we want to analyze its the correlation with tumor clinical classification, lympho node metastasis and neoplasm diameter of breast cancer patients.Material and methodsSeventy-nine female breast cancer patients were collected at 1st hospital ofXiaoshan from 2005 June to 2006 December. All pathological confirmed cases were performed with modified or radical mastectomy. There was no radiation therapy and chemistry therapy in these specimens. The C-erB-2 gene ,p53 gene, estrogen receptor(ER) and pregnant receptor (PR) were detected by Elivision? method. All the experimental data were analyzed by software SPSS 10.0, possibility value lower than 0.05 was regard as significance.Results1. In seventy-nine female breast cancer patients, average age 52.76±11.09. the positive rate of C-erbB-2, P53, estrogen receptor(ER) and pregnant receptor(PR) expression were 59.5%(47/79), 50.6%(40/79), 59.5%(47/79) and 50.6%(40/79) respectively.2. The expression of C-erbB-2 and P53 have a positive correlation with the lympho nodes metastasis in breast cancer. (P<0.01)3. The expression of C-erbB-2 and P53 have a positive correlation with the tumor classification in breast cancer (PC-erbB-2<0.01; PP53<0.05)4. The expression of C-erbB-2 and P53 have a positive correlation with the tumor diameter, but there was no significance in statistical analysis.(P>0.05)5. The expression of C-erbB-2 and P53 have a negative correlation with the age of the patient, but there was no statistical significance in breast cancer (P>0.05).6. The expression of C-erbB-2 and P53 has no correlation with the pathohistological type and the estrogen receptor and pregnant receptor expression rate.ConclusionsC-erB-2 gene and p53 gene can be used for the factors of the prognosis in breast cancer patients. The expressions of C-erbB-2 gene and p53 gene in breast cancer tissue always have a poor prognosis, and it has a positive correlation with the axilla lympho nodes metastasis and tumor clinical classification. Combined detection of C-erbB-2 gene and p53 gene is of great importance in the predicting the lympho nodes metastasis, prognosis judgment and clinical comprehensive treatment performation.
