Hand-assisted Laparoscopic Radical Nephrectomy: Comparison To Standard Laparoscopic Radical Nephrectomy

Objective Hand-assisted laparoscopic radical nephrectoray (HALRN) is a safe, effective, minimally invasive option for treating renal cell carcinoma and provides a shorter hospital stay, earlier return to work, and earlier return to 100% normal than open radical nephrectomy. We evaluate the clinical value of hand-assisted laparoscopic radical nephrectomy (HALRN) and standard laparoscopic radical nephrectomy.Methods Clinical data of 24 cases of hand-assisted laparoscopic radical nephrectomy (Hand-assisted laparoscopic Group), 10 cases of standard laparoscopic radical nephrectomy(Standard laparoscopic Group) were compared inrespect of operating room time, intraoperative hemorrhage volume, postoperative first flatus time, days to out-of-bed activity, length of hospitalization after operation and incidence of postoperative complications. All dates were analyzed by SPSS v13.0 Statistic soft-shell.Results Of the Hand-assisted laparoscopic Group, Standard laparoscopic Group, the operating room time was (128.5 ± 27.0) min, (187.0 ± 57.9) min; intraoperative hemorrhage volume was (82.1 ± 91.7) ml, (210.0 ± 241.0) ml; postoperative first flatus time was (2.6±0.7) days, (2.1 ± 0.6) days; days to out-of-bed activity was (4.7±1.8)days, (4.4 ± 3.0) days; length of hospitalization after operation was (11.8 ± 4.7) days,(8.4±2.9) days; incidence of postoperative complications was 16.7%, 20%.Conclusions Hand-assisted laparoscopic radical nephrectomy (HALRN) provides a shorter operating room time and a longer length of hospitalization after operation than standard laparoscopic radical nephrectomy.however,they were similar in terms of intraoperative hemorrhage volume, postoperative first flatus time, days to out-of-bed activity and incidence of postoperative complications. HALRN keeps fortes of standard laparoscopic radical nephrectomy, such as small trauma, few pain, quick recovery. HALRN can decrease operation time, simplify intact specimen removal. HALRN is the beneficial and requisite replenish of standard laparoscopic radical nephrectomy.
