Objective: To research the protection and its mechanism of Function Red Yeast Rice to the rats of diabetic nephropathy (DN), we injected streptozin (STZ) in vena caudalis and removed one kidney in rats to establish the animal model, and treated with Function Red Yeast Rice. Then we observesd its protection to kidney in DN rats by the techniques of biochemistry and pathological morphology, and inspected the change of transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) and connective tissue growth factor (CTGF) by immunohistochemistry and molecular biology and so on. All they can provide the scientific basis for Function Red Yeast Rice treating DN and build the solid foundation for its future appliment in clinically. Methods: We injected STZ in vena caudalis and removed one kidney in SD rats to establish DN model. Then we divided them into two groups randomly. One groupwas treated with 18ml/kg NS by dialy gavage as negative control--DN modelgroup. And the other group was treated with 18ml/kg vinegar of Function Red Yeast Rice by dialy gavage which was diluted into 10% as therapeutic group. At the same time, there was a normal controlled group with isometric NS by dialy gavage. All the three groups were administrated successively 28days. During the experiment, we observed the mental status of SD rats, color pattern, foodintake, hydroposia and urine volume and so on macroscopicly every day, and measured their weights every week. At the 7th, 14th, 28th of intervention and the 7th of drug withdrawal (35th) , we collected serum and uria as required to measure their serum glucose, serum creatinine, urea nitrogen, urine creatinine and 24h urine protein. Moreover, at the 28th of...
