Radiation is regarded as the forth pollution except for pollutions of water, air and noise. Radiation can cause the adverse effects on people. It is meaningful to search for an effective medicine of anti-radiation and radioprotector. It was reported that Ginkgo biloba extract had the effects on anti-oxidation, anti-tumor and enhancing the immunity. But there were fewer reports that Ginkgo biloba extract had anti-radiation function. In this study, Ginkgo biloba extract was used to investigate the anti-radiation ability and the possible mechanism.1. Effects of EGB on the index of organs in mice after radiationNo obvious difference was observed on index of liver, kidney and testis between radiation control and blank control. Liver indexes in mice treated with 20 mg/100ml and 100 mg/100ml EGB were higher than control and radiation control. Moreover mice treated with 10 mg/100ml appeared higher liver index compared with radiation control. And the indexes of spleen in every treatment group were lower than blank control.2. Effects of EGB on the activities of SOD, GSH-Px and MDA after radiationActivities of SOD and GSH-Px in mice treated with 10 mg/100ml and 20 mg/100ml EGB had no difference compared with radiation control. The concentration of MDA was increased obviously in mice treated with 20 mg/100ml and 100mg/100ml EGB compared with blank control, but mice treated with 10 mg/100ml EGB showed a lower concentration of MDA compared with radiation control, 20 mg/100ml and 100 mg/100ml treatment groups. The mechanism needs to be studied further. G-6-PD, SDH and LDH were considered to be the mark enzyme in testis. In this research we observed the activity of SDH, which didn't vary among every group. It was almost no change among treatment groups with controls.3. Effects of EGB on hematopoiesis after radiationThe number of red blood cells (RBC) in the mice treated with EGB was more than radiation control significantly. The concentration of hemoglobin (HGB) in mice treated with EGB was higher compared with radiation control. And the concentrations of HGB in 10 mg/100ml and 20mg/100ml treatment groups were lower than blank control. White blood cells (WBC) and lymphocytes (LYM) were decreased in treatment groups and radiation group. The ability of lymphocyte transformation in mice treated with 10 mg/100ml and 20 mg/100ml of EGB was increased compared with radiation control.
