Ischemia cerebral vascular disease (ICVD) is a leading cause ofdeath and long-term disability disease. Effective preventive measures and treatments will have social and economical value. Chuanxiong is one of the Chinese herbs which can activate blood circulation and dissolve stasis. It was commonly used and was proved to be effective in the treatment of heart or brain vascular diseases. In the experiment, we established the model of focal cerebral ischemia reperfusion in rats , in order to observe the potential protective effect and possible mechanism of volatile oil of Lingusticum Chuanxiong Hort(LCH) to the rats during focal cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury. 72 SD rats were randomly divided into 6 groups: sham-operation group, MCAO model group, nimodipine group (108 mg/kg·d-1), volatile oil 1ml/kg·d-1, 0.5 ml/kg·d-1 and 0.25 ml/kg·d-1 groups (n=12). Transient middle cerebral artery (MCA) occlusion was induced as described by Longa, and the rats in sham-operation group only sew up the skin after exposing the common carotid artery (CCA) in the right side. After 2 hours of cerebral ischemia and...
