One of the key ways to prevent Persistent diarrhea (PD) from affecting the grouth of infant is to actively and effectively control PD. Also, exactly Bianzheng Lunzhi is the important way to treat PD. Based on discussing the etiology and pathogenesis of PD in TCM, the study aims to reveal the PD's symptomatology characters in TCM and optimize the scheme of Bianzheng Fenxing in TCM.First is to discuss the etiology and pathogenesis of diarrhea in TCM and west medcine. In west medicine, diarrhea can be divided into infective diarrhea and noninfective diarrhea. The primary pathological mechanism of infective diarrhea include the effection of bacteric toxin, the effection of bacillus, the osmosis diarrhea and the effection of virus. We discuss the Bianzheng Fenxing of diarrhea in TCM according to literatures, for PD is not single disease in TCM viewpoint.Second is to discuss the etiology and pathogenesis of PD combining with clinic. We think the reason of PD is not only deficiency of vital Qi but also coexistence with excess. The ailing children always suffer from dyspepsia or exogenous affection, and relate to the damage of Spleen and Stomach. The primary pathological part is Spleen and Stomach, tieing up with Kidney. Deficiency of Spleen and water retention is the key pathogenesis.With the investigation to lately literatures we can know that the syndromes of PD include deficiency of Spleen,deficiency of Spleen and water retention,Yang insufficiency of both the Spleen and the Kidney,deficiency of the Spleen and coexistence with excess,impairment by overeating,cold-dampness diarrhea,deficiency of the Spleen and hyperactivity of the Liver,damp-heat diarrhea,deficiency of both Qi and Yin, deficiency of the Spleen Yin,wind-cold diarrhea in common.According to the clinical retrospective analysis of the PD's symptomatology characters in TCM, we put forward that balance of vital Qi and pathogen changes along with PD develop. In persistent stage of disease, vital Qi is deficiency and we can see the symptoms of deficiency of Spleen.We also can see damp-heat diarrhea, deficiency of Spleen and water retention.When lasting diarrhea impair Spleen Yang and Kidney,it while express the syndromes which due to Yang insufficiency. So we put forward that the syndromes of PD include deficiency of Spleen, Yang insufficiency of both the Spleen and the Kidney, damp-heat diarrhea and deficiency of Spleen and water retention.
