OBJECTSTri-ortho-cresyl phosphate (TOCP) is widely used as oil additives, lubricants, solvents in industry and able to induce a delayed neurodegenerative condition known as organophosphorus easter-induced delayed neurotoxicity (OPIDN) in human beings and sensitive animals, In order to investigate the early events in the development of OPIDN and the toxic mechanisms of OPIDN induced by TOCP, compound action potention parameters and conduction velocities in hen sciatic nerve, the malondialdehyde (MDA), glutathione (GSH), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), glutathione reductase (GR) and superoxide dismutase (SOD), anti-reactive oxygen species (anti-ROS), total anti-oxidative capacity (T-AOC) and the expression of cyt-c in the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system and the serums of hens treated with TOCP were assessed on d 0, 5, 10, 15 and 21 post-dosing. METHODS1. Adult Roman hens were treated with TOCP by gavage at a single dosage of 750 mg.kg-1, TOCP was dissolved in corn oil (0.65 ml.kg-1). Control hens received an equivalent volume of corn oil. Neurological testing was examined by delayed neurotoxicitic symptoms. OPIDN was assessed by an 8-point graded scale.2. The compound action potention indexes and conduction velocities in hen sciatic nerve were determined on d 0, 5, 10, 15 and 21 post-dosing.3.The changes of the lipid peroxidation and antioxidative status in experimental hens were determined by assessing the levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) and...
