| Qi-cao (Holotrichia) is belonging to Scarabaeidae elytra ord. It was used to treated for cataracta in China as gutta. In recent years, some reports indicated that Qi-cao could be a candidate as a therapy to prevent abdominal cavity tumor, laryngeal carcinoma, hysterocarcinoma, ovarian cancer et al. with other herbs. Other reports indicated that the extract of Qi-cao could inhibite the activity of gastric cancer MGC-803 cell line. But anti-tumor effect components of Qi-cao has not been reported. In order to search for and make sure its anti-tumor effective components, the ethyl acetate part of Qi-cao was studied in this experiment. The experiment studied their pharmacological effect and chemical constituents. We isolate compounds from the ethyl acetate part, and the compounds were evaluated for anti-tumor activity on Hela cell.The results showed that (I) the ethyl acetate part had anti-tumor effect on Hela cell. (II) 6 compounds were isolated from the ethyl acetate part by the methods of silica and aluminum trichloride gel column chromatography, their structures were identified by the methods of physiochenocal properties, sepectrography and comparing with calibrating compounds. They were: (1) hexadecanoic acid (2) decanoic acid (3) octadecenoic acid (4) cholesterol (5) gaidic acid (6) Myristic Acid (III) the results of anti-tumor test showed that (3), (4), and (5) had anti-tumor effect on Hela cell.In conclusion, ethyl acetate part of Qi-cao was considered to possess anti-tumor activity. These compounds were isolated from Qi-cao for the first time, compound (3), (4) and (5) also had anti-tumor effects, other effect active components remain to be studied in the future. |
