Compound astragalus extract (CAE), composed of four active parts, is extracted from of compound astragalus.Total extract astragalus (TAE), composed of astragalosides (AST) and astragalus polysaccharides (APS), and is extracted from astragalus membranes. The immunomodulatory and antioxidative effects of CAE and TAE and their comparison were investigated. The main contents are as follows:1. The immunomodulatory effects of CAE and TAE and their comparisonThe mouse models of delayed type hypersensitivity (DTH) response induced by DNFB were adopted. The results showed that three dosages of CAE (60 mg·kg-1,120 mg·kg-1 and 240 mg·kg-1) and TAE (15 mg·kg-1, 50 mg·kg-1 and 150 mg·kg-1) could markedly regulate both the suppressed and enhanced ear swelling induced by cyclophosphamide (Cy) in mice. Both decreased/increased spleen index and thymus index induced by Cy were markedly regulated by the middle and high-dose CAE and three dosages of TAE treatment. Decreased/increased thymus index induced by Cy was evidently regulated by low-dose CAE treatment. The results in vitro showed that the splenocyte proliferation induced by ConA could be remarkably promoted by CAE (3-10 mg·L-1) and TAE (3-30 mg-L(-1)) treatment; IL-2 production from splenocyte induced by ConA was significantly promoted by CAE and TAE treatment in the rage of 1-30 mg·L(-1) ; splenocyte proliferation induced by the suboptimal concentration of LPS was obviously promoted by CAE (1-30 mg·L-1) and TAE (3-30 mg·L-1) treatment, and their concentration-effect curves seemed to be bell-shaped. TNFα, IL-1 and NO secreted from PMΦs...
