The Relationship Between Carotid Artery Atherosclerosis And Coronary Artery Disease, Subtypes Of Cerebral Ischemic Storke

Background and purpose: Several investigations have shown the significant relationship between carotid atherosclerosis and coronary artery disease,ischemic stroke. Carotid artery atherosclerotic plaque is often associated with coronary artery atherosclerotic plaque, but wether the character of the carotid artery atherosclerotic plaque can respond to the character of coronary artery atherosclerotic plaque,wherther the echo property of the carotid atherosclerotic plaque detected by ultrasound can predict the happening of acute coronary events is unknown. Meanwhile, the etiology and clinical situation of the cerebral ischemic stroke are complicated, the relationship between carotid atherosclerosis and subtypes of stroke is unknown. To investigate the relationship between echo property of carotid atherosclerotic plaque and acute coronary events, the relationship between carotid atherosclerosis and subtypes of stroke, we retrospectively collected the data of patients with coronary artery disease,cerebral ischemic stroke and normal control. This study was devided into two parts.Methods and results:Part one: 120 patients with various reasons accepted with standard Judkins selected conary angiography, and they also accepted carotid artery ultrasound within a week before or after examination, carotid atherosclerosis was evaluated by the plaque score,as defined by the sum of all plaque heights in bilateral carotid arteries.
