| 0bjective: To evaluate the significance of MRI examinations for the patients to distinct between acute and chronic ,benign and malignant spinal fractures before kyphoplastyMethods: 24 aged spinal compression fracture patients from Jan 2004 to Jan 2006 had MRI T1WI,T2WI,STIR images examinations of spine. There are 9 female patients and 3 male patients from 59 to 85 with osteoportic vertebral fractures.the average age is 72.7. There are 7 female patients and 5 male patients from 52 to 74 with metastatic neoplastic vertebral compression fractures.the average age is 64.6. The signal changes in different sequences were observed before kyphoplasty. The pain before and after operation of 12 osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture patients among them were evaluated by visual analogue scale(VAS). Result: The"fruid sign"was found in 7 fractured verbral bodies in 7 patients of 12 osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture patients.There was no"fruid sign"in 12 metastatic neoplastic vertebral compression fracture patients.
