Objective: To investigate the relationships of polymerphi-sms of methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene and plasma homocysteine(Hcy) levels with ischemic stroke in young Adults .Methods: The plasma Hcy levels and genetic polymer-phism of MTHFR among forty-seven cases with young adult ischemic cerebral disease(37 males, 10 females; mean±SD age, 42.9±6.3 years; age at first event, <50 years) were investigated, 32 age and sex matched healthy persons(21 males, 11 females; mean±SD age, 44.2±5.6 years) and 39 persons with neural system but vascular disease(21 males, 18 females; mean±SD age,43.7±5.9 years) were used as controls. Their polymorphisms of MTHFR gene were analyzed using PCR-RFLP and plasma Hcy levels were measured using fluorescence polarization immunoassay (FPIA). All the subjects underwent brain CT or MRI examination, serum vitaminB12and folic acid examination, besides examination of plasma Hcy and nucleotide 677 MTHFR genotypes. The effects of age, sex, liver function, renal function ,smoking ,drinking , were analyzed.Results:...
