Objective: To investigate the relationship between apoptosis with Bcl-2 and Survivin, CD44v6 and HPV16/18 infection in uterine cervical carcinogenesis. Methods: Formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded samples including 46 cases of squamous cell carcinomas, 4 cases of adenocarcinomas, 10 cases of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) I/II and 5 cases of CINIII and 25 cases of normal cervical tissues were studied. Using Streptavidin -Peroxidase(S-P) immunohisto-chemical technique, the authors examined the expression of Bcl-2, Survivin and CD44v6 in these samples. The number of apoptosis cells was assessed in situ by TdT-mediated dUTP-biotin end labeling (TUNEL) method. The infections of HPV type 16, 18 DNA were determined by PCR. The data of this study was analyses using t test, one-way analysis of variance,x2 test and Spearman rank correlation. Results: (1) There were significant differences for Bcl-2, Survivin, and CD44v6 between carcinomas, CIN and normal cervices, respectively (P<0.05). Expression of Bcl-2, Survivin, and CD44v6 were correlated with tumor grades, clinical stages and lymph node metastasis (P<0.05).(2) There were significant differences for AI between carcinomas, CIN and normal cervices, respectively (P<0.05). AI were correlated with tumor grades, clinical stages and lymph node metastasis (P<0.05).(3) The positive rate of HPV16/18 was significant difference between cervical carcinomas, CIN and normal tissues (P<0.05) and was not associated with tumor grades, clinical stages and lymph node metastasis (P>0.05).(4) The expression of Bcl-2and Survivin were associated with AI (P<0.05). The expression of Bcl-2 was associated with the expression of Survivin (P<0.05).The infection of HPV16/18 were associated with the expression of Survivin and AI (P<0.05).Conclusions: There are the abnormal expressions of Bcl-2, Survivin and CD44v6 and theinfection of HPV16/18. HPV16/18 maybe increases the occurrence of cervical carcinomas throughchanging the apoptosis. Expressions of Bcl-2, Survivin and CD44v6 are associated with uterinecervical carcinogenesis. They possibly become useful indexes for the primary screening andprognosis of cervical carcinomas.
