Objective To monitor the changes of symptom scores, airway hyperreponsiveness(AHR,represented by PC35sGaw),FEV1% and PEF% in patients with mild and moderate persistent asthma who received combined therapy of inhaled corticosteroids(ICS) and long-acting β2 agonists(LABA) and evaluate the clinical significance of PC35sGaw as a guide in the adjustment of asthma stepwise therapy. Methods The subjects met the enroll standards were allocated randomly to group A,B,and C. The initiative regimens for all patients in the first three months included ICS (fluticasone) plus LABA (salmeterol). The subjects in group A sustained a fixed dosage for eighteen months while those in group B tailored the dose or withdraw therapy according to asthma clinical control level,ie.well or total control. Otherwise, the regimens for the subjects in group C were step-down or withdrawn according to PC35sGaw besides asthma clinical control. All subjects were followed-up for eighteen months and the symptom scores, PC35sGaw,FEVl% and PEF% were measured...
